That's the vision of Practice Greenhealth, a sustainability network delivering environmental solutions to more than 1,700 hospitals and health systems in the US and Canada. Healthcare sustainability is important work – if the healthcare sector were a country, it would be the fifth largest carbon emitter on the planet. The impact of environmental factors on human health is apparent now more than ever. The World Health Organization estimates that improved environmental conditions could prevent nearly a quarter of global diseases, citing climate change as a global public health threat. Healthcare leaders are recognizing the operational, strategic, financial and health equity importance of sustainability and resilience practices and taking impressive action in reducing their organization's environmental footprint, waste, greenhouse gas emissions, and more.
