Episode Overview:

Healthcare innovation and associate wellbeing are too often treated as separate missions, but the most forward-thinking health systems know they must move together.

Dr. Daniel Marchalik is proving exactly that as both Medical Director for Business Innovation and Executive Director of the Center for Wellbeing at MedStar Health's Institute for Innovation.

A practicing urologist who also holds a Master's in Literature from Georgetown, Daniel brings a genuinely rare lens to this work, connecting the human experience of caregiving to the structural changes that actually move the needle.

Leading a wellbeing strategy for over 36,000 associates while simultaneously driving venture and emerging technology initiatives, he and the MedStar team are redefining what a thriving healthcare workforce looks like.

Join us to discover how innovation and wellbeing become one powerful force. Let's go!

Episode Highlights:

  • Dr. Marchalik's circuitous path, from English major to urologist to innovation leader, proves following curiosity pays off.
  • MedStar's Center for Wellbeing lives inside the Innovation Institute, a uniquely powerful and rare structural decision.
  • Fixing clinician burnout requires workflow redesign, not pizza parties, connecting wellbeing directly to innovation strategy.
  • MedStar built an "inverse Swiss cheese model" for mental health support, so no employee can fall through the cracks.
  • Innovators solving healthcare problems must involve clinicians at the table; their absence is immediately obvious and costly.
