Whole Grain Intake & CV Health, Talfamidis & Recurrent Cardiovascular Events, Revascularization & Improved Cognition, Coronary Blood Flow in Women
Episode Description
In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at how higher whole-grain intake was associated with improvements in multiple cardiometabolic risk factors in a meta-analysis of randomized trials. He then examines how concomitant use of tafamidis or heart failure (HF) therapies did not modify the treatment benefit of vutrisiran on all-cause mortality and recurrent cardiovascular events, according to a HELIOS-B analysis, and follows that with a look in the case of patients with severe asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis, adding revascularization with either carotid artery stenting (CAS) or carotid endarterectomy (CEA) to intensive medical management (IMM) did not improve cognition compared with IMM alone, according to results from the CREST-2 randomized trials. Finally, Dr. Eagle explores how women in the CENTURY trial had higher coronary blood flow (CBF) than men while having a comparable burden of cardiovascular risk factors, similar treatment response and half the coronary events, offering a potential physiological explanation for the delayed clinical manifestation of coronary artery disease (CAD) in women.
