Firefighters & Cardiac Death; HFimpEF & Sex Differences; DAPT, DOAC, and LAAO; Non-lnfarct-Related IRA & CAD
Episode Description
In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at a brief report on how cardiac death remains a substantial contributor to on-duty mortality of U.S. firefighters, and how drivers of this trend may not be well identified by the current screening approaches. He then examines a recent article in JACC Heart Failure on how heart failure with improved ejection fraction (HFimpEF) was associated with better outcomes than persistent heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in both women and men. He follows that with a look at a metanalysis that compared dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) and direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) monotherapy and their effects on device-related thrombosis (DRT) and major bleeding after left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). Finally, Dr. Eagle offers a summary of an analysis a recent study the reported modest increase in noninfarct-related artery (non-IRA) revascularization in patients with STEMI and multivessel coronary artery disease (CAD), with some caveats.
