Type 1 Diabetes Screening Has Changed. What You Need to Know Now (Bonus episode)

Episode Description

A few years ago, when we talked about screening for type 1 diabetes, it still felt a little bit like we were talking about the future. That future may be arriving faster than we realize.

Dr. Bryce Nelson is back on the show. After years as a pediatric endocrinologist, he's now working specifically in autoimmune type 1 diabetes with Sanofi. We talk about how much has changed with screening, what we're learning about who's at risk, and the big question: how close are we to screening becoming a routine part of healthcare?

And Jenny Hoffman shares what this looks like for a family living it. Her older son was diagnosed at two and a half; after years of screening her younger son, Asher, he tested positive for five autoantibodies at age six. He's still in stage one, and Jenny talks about the surprising difference between fearing a diagnosis and having the time to prepare for one.

Where is type 1 screening headed next? That's what we're talking about today.
