Stacey Simms is the host of the long-running and award-winning podcast Diabetes Connections and the author of “The World's Worst Diabetes Mom” book series. She hosts Moms’ Night Out and Club 1921, in-person events for the diabetes community.
Stacey’s podcasts have been awarded the WEGO Health Top Ten Best in Show – Podcasts; The Podcast Awards – People’s Choice - Top Ten Health; and Diabetes Forecast Magazine: Top Diabetes Podcasts. In 2025, Diabetes Connections surpassed 3 million downloads.
“The World’s Worst Diabetes Mom” won Best New Non-Fiction at the American BookFest, a 2020 Communicator Award and was named to Book Authority’s 100 Best Parenting Books. Its sequel, “Still the World’s Worst Diabetes Mom” received a 2023 Mom’s Choice Gold Award.
Diabetes Connections presents: Moms’ Night Out is held four times a year in different cities. It’s a combination of education, technology, community, and cocktails and gives women in the T1D community a chance to connect in-person on a local level.
Club 1921 is an educational dinner series for the entire diabetes community and healthcare providers. Held in different cities throughout the year, it’s a chance to learn about one particular topic such as T1D screening or using emergency glucagon.
Stacey also hosted Diabetes Connections Type 2, a year-long podcast project providing news and inspiration for that community.
Before launching the podcast in 2015, Stacey had a thriving career in local TV and radio news, winning AP and local awards for her time on-air.
Stacey’s son, Benny, was diagnosed with type 1 in 2006, just before he turned two. Stacey’s daughter has been outspoken about the experience of siblings of kids with T1D. The family, along with their dog, Freckles, lives near Charlotte, NC.
