In college, while pregnant with my son, my grandfather suffered a heart attack. Standing in the ICU watching the nurses and doctors save his life changed something in me. I remember thinking, “I want to be able to help people like that.”

So I became a nurse.

After years in ICU and stroke care, I still catch myself scanning restaurants for the nearest AED. I still notice facial drooping before anyone else in the room. I still think about families I sat with during the worst moments of their lives.

Nursing changed the way I see people forever.

I didn’t grow up imagining I’d work in critical care or host healthcare podcasts. I was a homeschooled kid raised in a loud house with five siblings, learning around a kitchen table where curiosity mattered more than perfection. My mom taught us to ask questions, think deeply, and care about people.

That stayed with me.

What I didn’t expect was how much the job would shape me outside the hospital.

I spent years working night shifts in ICU and stroke care - caring for critically ill patients, supporting grieving families, and learning how much human connection matters when people are overwhelmed, scared, or trying to process life-changing news.

Some coworkers used to joke that I was “better than drugs” because I could calm families down just by sitting with them and helping them feel understood.

Honestly, that taught me more about communication than any class ever could.

Over time, I realized healthcare has a messaging problem. Some of the most important ideas, innovations, and breakthroughs never fully connect with the people they’re supposed to help because the communication feels cold, clinical, or disconnected from real life.

That realization pulled me into podcasting during the pandemic.

What started as conversations became a new direction for my career.

Today, I’m a Stroke Certified Registered Nurse, podcast host, speaker, author, and healthcare media consultant helping healthcare innovators, biotech/pharma leaders, conferences, and mission-driven organizations communicate with more trust, clarity, and humanity.

Through my podcasting, public speaking, media, and storytelling, I’ve learned people rarely remember the smartest person in the room.

They remember the person who made them feel seen.
